AVault had a closer look at the XBox version of Baldur's gate: Dark Alliance. Their review comes up with a rating of 4.5/5, and finds these words to describe their overall impressions:
ungeons & Dragons fans are as varied as Dungeons & Dragons’ rules: Some players seek rich storylines of various styles and tones, some play for in-depth battles requiring teamwork and intelligence, while some simply like to explore the unknown territories of deep dungeons and cleanse them of hideous evil and extravagant booty to gain power and fortune. Baldur's Gate: Dark Alliance has a little of something for everyone, but is clearly focused on the latter. The storyline is fairly shallow and predictable, and its linearity kills the game's replayability for those primarily concerned with epic tales. The boss battles and various skills demand a degree of strategy, but by and large you'll face countless foes who require no more attention than a few strokes of your blade to vanquish. That said, the graphics are of unprecedented quality, and the gameplay is well implemented, balanced, addictive, and bug-free. While the path to the end is essentially devoid of alternatives, the choice and development of your character allows you to make some decisions, and supplies a reason to keep playing after the mystery unfolds. |
