Following up on their PC review of 'Deus Ex: Invisible War', VideoGamesLife has tossed up a review of the Xbox version. The score is the same at 91%, but the content is different:Unfortunately, if you’ve played the original Deus Ex it may prove troublesome acclimating yourself to the world depicted in Invisible War. For a start, the maps are much, much smaller than the wide-open areas in Deus Ex. Remember Hell’s Kitchen and the outside of Area 51? There’s nothing even approaching the sheer size of those levels (save one unique location at the end of the game). Despite the smaller maps, however, Invisible War is just as playable as Deus Ex – if not more so. For a start, Ion Storm has worked its collective arse off to provide one of the most immersive games we’ve ever encountered. Invisible War is open for you to play in any way you want right from the start. As the game itself actually tells you, there is no right or wrong way to play it. Work for whomever you want, kill or save whomever you want, complete an objective this way or another, use this device or that… the girth of tasks laid out before you and many ways you can accomplish them seem overwhelming. But that is, essentially, the Deus Ex charm. If you’re approaching Invisible War as a newcomer to the series, prepare to be floored. |
