Frictionless Insight lets us know that theys have posted a preview of Dragon Empires, based on their E3 experience. Here's a bit:
Although just a few months from its beta stage, Codemasters demonstrated relatively little of what players should expect from a day-in-the-life of Dragon Empires. The focus at E3 was on graphics, non-city area graphics in particular. And perhaps with good reason, since they are, in fact, quite lovely. The world's colors are rich and varied. Vegetation is lush and it sways in the breeze. The thick grass actually parts as your avatar walks through it. Many of the land features, such as coastlines, are fractally generated, so should deliver an extremely realistic shape. The appearance of the world is also tied to the weather model. When a storm is a-brewing, clouds slowly gather and darken the skies. As the storm approaches, you can see the attendant increase in wind speed by watching the plants move and bend in realistic response to the pressure. Although it hasn't been implemented at this stage, our tour guide indicated that the weather model was so powerful (and just plain pretty) that they were trying to figure out if it could be incorporated into player magic, like having lightning strike from a player-created storm. |
