NW Vault has posted an interview with Michael Posey, creator of the Persistent World 'Brynsaar' (and, incidentally, an Atari employee):4) Your Persistent World is called "Brynsaar" was recently inducted into our Hall of Fame. Could you give us an overview of what it's all about and the unique setting you have.
We wanted to make Brynsaar as realistic and immersive as a NWN server can be. There was a vision for the world from the beginning, with different kingdoms and factions with their own history and agenda. If you're from the goody-goody Empire, walking into the capital of the Dark Kingdom shouldn't be like entering any other city, but you should feel like you need to watch your step. With five major cities, almost 20 gods, and several guilds there's a niche for every alignment or personality in Brynsaar, as long as you don't grief other players.
Roleplay is key but in my eyes that doesn't mean fighting or leveling should be impossibly difficult. I don't believe in HCR and will never implement it on Brynsaar. There are plenty of challenges to face ranging from monster encounters to in-character politics, and goals to work towards including key player positions, personalized items and housing. Player actions really do have an impact on the world, and the rich background that has been created is evolving all the time. |
