A rather detailed first impressions article on Diablo 2 - Lord of Destruction has been posted at Firingsquad today. They complain a little bit about immune monsters here:
What is up with Immune monsters? Creatures that are immune to melee, or cold, or lightning, or fire, or acid or poison, sometimes a combination of the above? What purpose do they serve? What happens when a Barbarian in a singleplayer game encounters a mini-boss who is immune to melee? When was the last time anyone ever saw a Barbarian blast anything with a Blizzard or Meteor? Killing the thing is rather tedious.
Blizzard's official rationale seems to be to encourage grouping in multiplayer. That's fine and dandy, but what if you're like the majority (yes, majority) of players who play through Diablo II by themselves? There may be hundreds of thousands of people playing D2 on battle.net, but there are millions who bought the game and primarily play in singleplayer. I'm all for making the game more challenging for those who take advantage of grouping, but why punish those who choose not to group? What is a sorceress specializing in lightning supposed to do when she finds out that Diablo is immune to lightning, and her cold and fire skills are not capable of slaying him, and obviously her melee is in no way sufficient? |
