RPGDot Game Rating Machine

Gollum has rated the following games:

Dark Sun 1 - Shattered Lands: 7/10 points

Good title and during its time one of the best choices arond besides replaying Ultima7 for the nth time. The game had flaws, but the originality and atmosphere of the setting made up for a lot of those. Not sure if I'd reccomend anybody playing it today, there are better classics to catch up with, but if you already know all the classics Dark Sun wouldn't be a waste of your time...

Dungeon Siege: 7/10 points

Worth its money but not much more IMHO, most people will probably get about 20-30 hours of singleplayer fun from this game. It has good Graphics, Interface, Controls and offers good Hack'n'Slash Fun until you complete it once. Sound, Music and Skill system are more average. Story, Longtime motivation and Replay value suck, maybe some of the promising MODs can change that in the future...

Elder Scrolls 3 - Morrowind: 9/10 points

Definitely one of the best CRPGs available. Unlike NWN it can live up to most expectations, the focus on a singleplayer game really pays off. It might be a bit too loose ended sometimes, but if you really dig a big world, great graphics and lots, lots of freedom for character development, there simply is no better game! It lacks a bit in the interactivity with the gameworld, but the world is so huge and you can do so many things with all the items, spells, skills, factions and their quests that you will have enough other things to occupy your time! You will need to bring a bit motiation of your own (for exploration and character development) into the game though, the story, although deep, is a bit slow ...

Fallout - A Post Nuclear Adventure: 9/10 points

One of the classic CRPGs, everybody interested in RPGs should give it a try! The Setting, Story, Design, Atmosphere and Gameplay are all top-notch! I only have a few gripes with the Inventory and Control system, but those are minor.

Gothic: 10/10 points

Its frightning, there are many things you could list that this game doesn't have and things that could be improved, but its still one of the best games I have ever played! If the developers get their act together for Gothic 2 its gonna be an incredible tile, maybe no Morrowind killer, but still worth every penny and second you spend on it.

Neverwinter Nights: 6/10 points

I have mixed feelings about the game. I've been waiting for years and the whole online and construction-set features are cool, but somehow NWN still can't seem to really convince me. I am no AD&D player, so I hav no nit-picking about the 3rd Edition rules implementation - the skill system seems fine to me as a computer RPG player. The graphics are quite good while nothing groundbraking. Sound and Mucis are more average, voiceacting is actually pretty bad most of the time IMHO. Most of all the single player campaign seems very average to me and I am not sure if I will even continue playing it beyond the first ~5hours into the game I spent so far. Some people will love this game and its decent enough, but ignoring the hype of the last years I feel the actual game itself is not all its made up to be...

Ultima 7 - Serpent Isle (Sequel): 9/10 points

The U7 series (Black Gate, Serpent Isle and add-ons) is still one of my top3 RPG favourites, its just too good! The immersiveness of the gameworld, freedom of progress within the story and world are all tweaked exactly right IMHO (not too linear and not too non-linear), characters and towns take on a live of their own and the world just feels alive, hard to beat that feeling...

Ultima 7 - The Black Gate: 9/10 points

Ultima 8 - Pagan: 7/10 points

Take out the jump'n'run parts (latest patch) and the game is actually pretty good most of the time. Different atmosphere and gameplay than the older Ultimas, but still worth of the Ultima name...

Ultima 9 - Ascension: 8/10 points

Its hard to rate this game, previously I would have reated it a 5, but today... On release, I felt screwed by the bugs, the engine performance and the inconsitencies in the story and world. After all the patches (official and fan-made) however, most of the annoyances are gone and it is a quite different game. It plays better and is way more immersive. You'll be rewarded by one of the most complete 3D wolds to date and whatever it is that remained of the original concept and story (which is still of better quality than a great number of other games). If you feel very picky about consistency with the previous Ultimas you won't enjoy it, but if you can live with a few of those its actually a very good game by now IMHO...
