There is a new preview of Asheron's Call 2 at Gamespy today. As usual, we serve you a tiny bit as appetizer, where they talk about their impressions from the beta:
One thing Asheron's Call players called out for was the ability to control the destiny of their world. Although it was possible for players to try and alter the course of the story during a given month (as happened with one near-legendary event on the Thistledown server, with hundreds of players protecting a special crystal 24/7 that had been destroyed on every other server), the story needed to continue in a predetermined manner at the end of the day. This time around, it will be possible for the story to branch along different paths depending on the actions of players on that server. "By creating triggers for possible quests in all worlds and only turning some of them on selectively," explains Troop, "we could in fact give players the sense of true world divergence, that their choices will matter. Everyone's going to be starting at the same place, we're all going to eventually come to the same place, but the path every player takes in each world to get those points will be completely different."
