PC.IGN has an interview with Creative Director Chris Foster of Turbine about the upcoming expansion for Asheron's Call: Dark Majesty. Here's something about changes to the monsters:
IGNPC: Obviously the Drudge and Olthoi are the bread and butter of AC beasties. Are there going to be any big changes or additions to any of the existing monsters? Tell us a little about some of the new monsters players will encounter.
Chris Foster: We're making significant changes and additions to the Olthoi bestiary. Existing monsters will be getting an improved look, and some new breeds will be burrowing into the world as well. Asheron's Call was designed with three major story arcs: the Empyrean Shadows & Undead, the Virindi and the Olthoi. With the release of the expansion pack, now it's the Olthoi's turn.
You can also expect some changes to the Tumeroks. How and why these changes occurred, are the heart of the story of Marae Lassel.
There are also two types of new creatures that players will experience on the new island, each with many variants, and they both look different than your average AC creature. The Carenzi and Siraluun are native fauna of Marae Lassel, very animal-like, and less horrific or alien than some of our past monsters. The Carenzi is a fierce, prairie dog-like creature who attacks in packs, while the Siraluun is an oversized bird of paradise similar to a peacock, complete with colorful plumage. These creatures help to set a different tone for the island, and each has unique character.
Speaking of drudges, they were among a host of creatures whose art was redone in the months since our initial release. One of the advantages that monthly content updates have provided AC is that they've let us revisit elements of the game, and change them. Anyone who's seen one of our revised Drudges, Tuskers, Lugians and Golems, or our new dungeons or island environments, knows that we've invested a lot in augmenting the look of our game. |
