Gamespy has put up a dev diary by Brenda Brathwaite (ex SirTech), Lead Designer of Atari's D&D Heroes. Here's a snippet:Braithwaite's favorite part of the design process is the beginning; it's at this time when she can flex her creativity. "Early on in a project," she explains, "it's all a blank screen. You sit back and ask yourself 'what is this world gonna look like?' That's really the best time for me as a game designer." Brathwaite used good ol' fashioned graph paper early in the game's creation to map out the flesh and bones of the world she and the D&D Heroes team are bringing to life. "I get paid to make stuff up … and then I actually get to see it when it's been built into the game. Those are the most awesome days a designer, really the most rewarding." |
