The E3 coverage at Gamespy continues today with a preview of Worlds of Warcraft. Here's something:
"We're trying to keep the game as immersive as possible," explained Dodds. "That means as little clutter on the screen as possible." To be sure, the streamlined interface is what's going to set this game apart from the rest of its online multiplayer competitors. Blizzard is known best for perfecting genres, not always innovating; that's certainly the case here. The interface was so straightforward that the current generation of MMOG games look like cheap Windows hacks in comparison. For example, your character's special abilities are lined up at the bottom of the screen, in a configuration just like you'd see in Warcraft III. One interface feature I particularly liked was a little combat heads-up display: When you engage in combat with a creature, small pictures of yourself and the creature appear at the top of the screen with your associated health bars, so you can tell at a glance how well the battle is going. |
