Gamespot UK has posted a preview of Neverwinter Nights. Here's an interesting excerpt:
Choosing a Halfling Druid, we were soon in the thick of the action, with the city buzzing, rumours flying and plenty of leads to investigate. After meeting a sticky end in a quarter that had been besieged by legions of the undead, we plunged headlong into another where the jail had been taken over by its prisoners. Most of the time, you'll be controlling a single hero or heroine, although there are opportunities to hire henchmen -- or, as in our Druidic case, summon an animal companion (a very striking black panther) to add some additional firepower. We were soon battling guard dogs, assorted old lags and beefy thugs using the highly agreeable real-time combat system, before a truly epic confrontation with the Chief Prisoner brought a hefty reward as we imposed our own version of lockdown. One welcome addition is Neverwinter's cooperative mode, which lets you play the whole single-player game with your mates, with the threat system adjusting the difficulty level on the fly, to ensure a balanced yet still challenging experience. |
