Another playing session has been announced for A Tale in the Desert. If you never have played this non-combat MMORPG then you are invited to read an essay that was written by one of the players, to learn more about the game.
    Everyone,

    In celebration of reaching 5000 beta testers, we're going to have a really big session:
    Friday, 7/19/2002 from 3:00PM EDT (GMT-0500) until 3:00AM

    I have a lot to announce this time...
    Long time player Ecnassianer has written an essay that really gets to the heart of why A Tale in the Desert is different from other MMORPGs. I'd especially encourage those of you who have not yet tried ATITD to read it:
    http://www.egenesis.com/ecnassianer.html

    The feedback I've been getting about Monday's session indicates that it was one of the best we've ever had. I've heard very good things about the welcome banner system, which allows you to bring new players to your camp, instead of waiting for them at a common spawn point. It seemed that every player with a well crafted banner message quickly got 2-4 students to mentor. Several of these students went on to join their mentor's guild.

    Tugament III will begin 4 hours into Friday's session. If you have never played a game of Tug, ask someone for directions to the University of Thought, and sign up for the Test of Telepathy. Directions to the newly constructed Tug arena will be provided in-game. It's a really great looking arena, with a special court where the finals will take place. The entry fee is 20 flax, payable to CerealKil. The top three players will split the pot 50%/30%/20%, and several bonus prizes will be provided:
    * A Fine Steel Axe, donated by the Scholars of Thoth
    * Rights to mine 500 silver from the Bes: Exodus silver mine.
    * Choice of a Hand Loom, Kettle, or Brick Machine donated by Pharaoh
    * (Possibly) One Crystal Anubis

    I don't usually announce private auctions by players, but I really admire solo traders, so I'm making an exception. Surp is auctioning off one of the rarest items in the game: A Fine Steel Axe. Only 15 exist right now, and it allows one who also knows the Precision Woodcutting skill to harvest 50% more wood than with a regular axe. Bidding is in Straw at http://www.pluribus.org/forums/atitd/viewtopic.php?t=819

    And the biggest news about this session: Rumor has it that The Stranger will be about.
