The Future of Online Gaming

Lum the Mad has returned. His new site "Slow News day" features an article entitled The Future of Online Gaming. 11 gurus talk about the topic, and this is what Richard Garriott has to say about what he would like to play, regarding online games (no wonder he mentions his own project *g*):

Indeed! Still though, all these MMP games so far are built on the same model: Giant virtual world with giant rules and advancement systems, regardless of fiction. I sure hope even the Sci-Fi and Fantasy games can break that mold. I know we plan too! An MMP RTS sure seems like an obvious next choice to hit it big with, but defining things like game balance, and what happens when players are out of the game, will be a nightmare. Yet I trust some of the great RTS designers can tackle it. Beyond that, I'd love to play a "Myst like" social exploration game. I have not seen enough of the Sims yet to know if they have a compelling social game design. I do believe the social game category could be great fun!
