Electric Playground has interviewed Ken Levine, the producer of Irrational's upcoming superhero themed RPG Freedom Force. The questions cover a wide variety of issues, and go pretty much into detail as you can see from this sample:
Q: With the sheer amount of characters and powers possible in the game, how hard was it to create a single player campaign that worked fairly for all? What about balancing for multiplayer?
KL: The RPG system is balanced on a point system, so as you make your character tougher, he becomes more expensive to "recruit" onto your roster. So the trick was balancing out the power system, not the individual characters. I think it's something Jon Chey and the designers worked very, very hard on. Multiplayer balancing works off the same system. Each player is given a number of points and he must build a team of that many points or fewer. It reminds me of Car Wars in this manner. I can imagine fans spending the night before a big multiplayer match trying to put together an unstoppable team of heroes. But remember, his foes are going to have exactly the same amount of points to use! I really don't think there's anything quite like this out there.
