Once again, a very enthusiastic review of Disciples 2 - Dark Prophecy has gone online, this time at The Wargamer. The site rates the game 5/5, honoring it with their award for excellence. Here's a bit from the review:
found the graphics breathtakingly stunning. Gazing at the screen while the game is playing is like looking at a stain-glass window in a European Cathedral. Vivid colors are contrasted against the blackest black. The storyline is rich and deep. Combined with the epic struggle of Good and Evil the atmosphere of Disciples II: Dark Prophecy is perfect.
The contrast between units and the landscape at times isn't very good, however, and there were moments when I found it difficult to discern units from the terrain if they were next to something like a bush or tree. The result of this went beyond possibly losing friendly units (hint: use the "Next Leader" button to alleviate this) but can also result in an ambush by enemies that otherwise would have been visible if searched for more carefully. The game does allow for banners to be turned on so that units are easier to see. When a unit is about to cross within combat range of an enemy unit a red flag is shown (as opposed to blue for available movement, or white for intended movement that's out of range) In practice, however, the flags can still be missed if players begin to move without much caution. |
