Gamespy has published a review of .hack for the PS2. They liked the game and rated it 80%. Here's their conclusion:
For breaking new ground, Bandai is commendable. For providing an engrossing dungeon-hack RPG experience, Cyber Connect 2 is commendable. The story woven by Kazunori Ito brings what could have been banal to vibrant life and this spark keeps the experience fresh. I'm guardedly optimistic about future volumes. I've no doubt the story will only build in intensity, but I'm curious to see if CC2 can keep the dungeon-crawling fresh. As it stands, though, there's an atmospheric, ground-breaking adventure to be had. Once I thought about it, this score was easy to assign; like the game, it's poised on the lip of greatness, looking toward both. I don't know how future volumes will do -- but for now, I'm hooked. It's time to dive back into the dungeons for more equipment and levels, so I'm ready for Part 2.
