GameSpy has kicked up a preview of Dark Messiah. The multiplayer is still under wraps but the combat sounds like something to please Severance fans:
Most of what was shown centered around melee combat, and from the looks of it, there is a pretty deep system in place to support it. As Sareth fought with the multitude of orcs that have taken residence in the subterranean citadel where the demo was set, he assumed a variety of different combat stances which segued into each other depending on the type of weapon he was using. There seems to be some kind of fluid combo system in place whose effects varied depending on which weapon was being used. When wielding a sword, for instance, a deep overhead slash was followed by a stance in which the blade was held straight forward from the waist, which would allow the easy goring of anything ahead of you. In short, the combat seemed anything but mindless; on the contrary, what was shown suggested that with a little effort, you'll garner some very effective, satisfying results.
