HomeLan has conducted an interview with Funcom's product manager Jørgen Tharaldsen about Anarchy Online and the upcoming expansion called "Shadowlands". This is an excerpt:
HomeLAN - What can you tell us about upcoming commercial expansion packs at this point?

Jørgen Tharaldsen - Shadowlands will be the first expansion pack for AO, and will further unravel the deep story behind the game. The short version of the story is something like this: In the floating city of Jobe, Omni-Tek's scientists have finally been able to open a portal to the Shadowlands, an ancient dimension thought by some to be paradise, and now it has become rediscovered by man.

Omni-Tek is after the Notum inside these lands, in order to further grow their corporate control (perhaps they are even after something else?), while the Clans has their own agenda within Shadowlands.

Inside terrible monsters roam and remnants of an ancient civilization speaks of visitors in a time long gone. There are also wondrous beings in here, called the unredeemed and redeemed, and they haven taken side with Omni-Tek and the Clans. It's time for an epic clash of major proportions.

As for geography, it's a truly twisted world, where the laws of physics are changed. See the screenshots and concept on the site to get a small glimpse. I am certain it will become a world like no other, and by entering a lot of questions about Rubi-ka will be answered for the exploring soul. After all, life in the universe had to come from somewhere.
