The 'Dungeons & Dragons Online' website has been updated with a new dev diary from Designer Jason Booth. It was just a simple door script, but by generalizing all of the functions needed for these objects into a standard "toggle" script, all of the objects gain the functionality of the others, increasing the possibility space that the Content Designers can work with. And so far, about 90% of the interactive objects in DDO use the same script without needing custom code, which has been a huge time savings for me; I don’t have to write scripts for these objects, I don’t have debug them, and the Content Designers already know how they can be used. That leaves me more time for AI, combat, music systems, interesting content dynamics, and perhaps most importantly, more time to rant and annoy my fellow co-workers. |
