Over at the official site for Dragon Empires, you can find a Dev Diary written by Community Liaison Manager Peter Tyson. It describes a typical day in the offices. Let's have a look at his lunch time :-):
12.11
Just popped over to the main building and got my lovely sandwich from the canteen, very exciting! Looking forward to a good bit of Battlefield 1942 at lunch today too.
Spent some time talking to one of our senior programmers about game products. You see, when you make a game like this you take each item in the game and divide it down to its basic components, this is called a product. In a game like Dragon Empires there are literally thousands of them and each needs to be carefully considered, designed and then created. We talked about movement and pathing and compared our system to other games. We think we have a very effective and user friendly system. Of course, this work takes weeks and weeks of time of one programmer and is made more difficult because the server needs to confirm the pathing (to avoid hacks) and there are contingencies for lag. Of course, once the game is live, hardly anyone will notice and know about all the work that goes into such details!
Such is the thankless work of the game dev ;) |
