The second part (part 1 here) of RPG Vault's 'Age of Pirates' interview with the folks at Akella is now online...
Blaze is known as an impulsive, even reckless fortune hunter, while the redheaded Beatrice possesses a reputation as quite a daredevil. In Akella's Age of Pirates, which is currently expected to set sail later this year, you can play either one as you seek the fame and fortune that represent your destiny. In order to do so, you will have to survive diverse adventures while plying the dangerous waters of the Caribbean in a selection of 10 vessels that can be highly customized with weapons, crew and more. Among the possible routes to success, you might choose to focus on trade, moving goods from one place to another to sell at a profit. On the other hand, it may just be more to your liking to search the trade lanes for merchant convoys or even individual ships you can plunder.

As you begin to prosper, other courses may open up to you; for instance, you might decide to build a dominant fleet that controls the waves. Alternatively, you may opt to seize control of colonies so as to enrich your coffers via the various wares they produce. In either case, your path to wealth and glory won't necessarily be easy. Your rivals will include other captains just as eager to succeed, and the advanced AI directing their behavior will mean they are able to grow into truly worthy challengers. Our experience with Akella's past buccaneer-themed titles has definitely been positive, so we've been keen to learn about this one in detail ever since it first cruised into view. Recently, we succeeded in setting up an informative question and answer session with Project Leader Renat Nezametdinov and Lead Designer Artyom Romanko.
