IGN PC has popped up a preview of Bioware's Star Wars RPG Knights of the Old Republic which was revealed yesterday behind closed doors:

...Although the game is being developed by Bioware, the combat system is about the only similarity to Bioware's most-famous RPG. The game is built on a completely new engine and is entirely 3D. Since there are no screen shots being released at this time, I guess I should let you know that the camera is set in an over the shoulder view and you can adjust the pitch, tilt, and zoom level to some degree to get the angle you're most comfortable with. The new engine looks incredible, with high-detail textures, high-poly models, facial animation, blended animations, and bump-mapped surfaces...you'll just have to wait and see it.

This is a hardcore RPG, so expect plenty of story and depth here. Although there is a set path you can follow to get to the end of the game, there are plenty of sub-missions for you to go on. However, James did promise that we wouldn't see any "fetch and retrieve" quests. Quests will have a purpose and there will be a number of ways to solve each mission...
