An interview with the makers of "Elemental", a Dungeon Siege modification, can be found at HomeLAN Fed today.
Here's an excerpt:HomeLAN - How did you come up with the idea for Elemental?
assembler_of_redux - It's actually based on a book I've been writing for the last few years. Being immensely fed up with the spate of s***** fantasy rpgs with dwarves and elves probably fueled my irritation. It's like every person who's ever made an rpg (not planescape and fallout, thank god) has to set the world in the same goddamn place and the same cliched time period where everyone has plate mail and mithril and they all have names like Rohan or Aragorn or Elurn or some such crap. Blame the d&d license for most of it and Tolkien for the rest. Anyway it seemed that a historical/fantastic setting would work superbly well as a game setting because the concrete detail and the reality of the place can set off the fantastic elements in great relief and deepen the strangeness of the world. |
