As promised, Gamespy has posted the second part of their Morrowind preview. Here's a bit from that:
For years now the cutting edge of PC graphics has belonged to first-person shooters. Bethesda aims to change that with Morrowind. On firing up the game the first time, I was blown away by the level of detail the engine was able to depict. Character models were all superbly detailed. Documentation claims that characters are rendered with 5000 polygons each up close, whereas most first-person shooters only draw a maximum of 2500 polygons ... and the difference shows. Furthermore, every bit of clothing is rendered. You're able to patch together armor from various sources -- a bracer here, a helmet there, a shoulder guard from elsewhere -- and each will be drawn separately on to your character. It works for NPCs, too. When I sold a nice shoulder guard to a merchant, he must've taken a liking to it and I saw him put it on right away. I dare to say that after all previews I have seen so far, this game will deliver. BIG TIME :-) |
