There is a new interview with Ken Levine, Executive Producer of Freedom Force at a site called Tolstiy's Place. Here's a bit about the RPG elements in Freedom Force and how they are connected to the tactical aspects:
Tolstiy: As we know, there will be a deep RPG system in your game. How will it be connected to the tactical genre - they usually use it but every game has something new. What will be new in FF, looking from this point?
Ken Levine: Players earn points on missions that they can use to do two things: First, they can recruit new heroes to their team (either pre-made heroes, or roll your own. Freedom Force also lets players import user created skins and meshes into the game, opening up the game to become extremely open ended. If you want a team full of guys from the Matrix, be our guest. If you want a team of US Army Rangers joining up with Freedom Force, you have our blessing. The game is meant to be played as the players want to play it. Irrational believes strongly in the mod community. My hope is that I won't even recognize what people are playing Freedom Force as in a couple of years. At root, it's an incredibly strong tactical RPG with an open-ended infrastructure. Where the players take it from there, is up to them. |
