EQ: Prophecy of Ro Lead Designer Travis McGeathy has been interviewed at GameCloud:Gamecloud - One of the big new features in this expansion is destructible objects. How hard was it to put in this feature and how is it use in gameplay?
Travis McGeathy - It's a pretty simple concept on the surface. . .make a piece of terrain that players can attack, that visibly takes damage as its being hurt, and that eventually lays in rubble on the ground. As with most things, it's rarely as simple as it sounds. It's one thing to add destructible terrain to a game when it's being created, but when you've got nearly 7 years of content and code that's already in place, it’s a whole different ballgame. EverQuest's systems simply weren't built with this in mind, so it's been quite challenging to get in place. |
