Unknown Player have a story up about how apparently UBI Soft promotes Shadowbane by paying reporters to make favorable reviews.
MMOG's in development live or die by the pre-release press they get. Games with a lot of favorable buzz have massive pre-orders and the boxes fly off the shelves in the first few weeks. Obviously most game companies are very eager to get good press and avoid bad press. A good example would be E3, where the typical large company spends hundreds of thousands of dollars or even several millions to attract what they hope will be positive coverage of their titles. Ubi Soft seems to have found a sure-fire way of insuring they get good press coverage: they gag all independent news sources with a Non-Disclosure Agreement then secretly pay certain reporters that are then allowed to disclose details about ShadowBane.
However note the questionmark in the title, is it true or is it fiction. Also be sure to read Waylanders response on their forums.
