GameSpy's Will Tuttle has the latest scoop on all that GameSpy knows re Bioware's upcoming epic saga, Jade Empire...

The Roles We Play

At the start of the game, you have a ton of options when creating a character. First, you must decide if you want to create your own character from scratch, or if you'd rather use one of the premade fighters that will be available to you. Unfortunately, there isn't much known yet about the character creation process. There are some reports that say you'll be able to completely create a character from the ground up, including choosing a voice set, while others say that you'll be able to pick from one of twelve templates (six male, six female). The latter seems more likely, given the depth of the game, and the fact that there are thousands of line of dialogue already recorded.

When you create a character, the first thing you'll need to do is set their starting ability scores and beginning fighting styles. In Jade Empire, each character will have Primary and Secondary ability scores, and they'll affect different aspects of the game, depending on their ratings. The three Primary abilities (Mind, Body, and Spirit) will determine the starting and maximum levels for the three Secondary abilities (Health, Focus, and Chi). The levels of the Primary abilities will also affect the skills you use in coversation with other players throughout the game. For instance, high Mind and Body ratings will make it easier for you to charm them, while an emphasis Body and Spirit allows you to be more intimidating.
