Revolutionary 1st person MMORPG. Big world, lots of character options, tons of treasure. Leveling treadmill. Steep learning curve. End game gets tiresome.

Brassi has rated 5/10 points (Click here to see more Reviews from Brassi)

You need a crap-load of free time. If you don't read the sites or have someone tell you in game, you might play a class for a couple weeks that no one will ever group with in later levels. I didn't like it at all, but some people love it. Somepeople have like over a year real-time logged onto a character. That's crazy IMO. But if people are willing to give a year of thier life over 3-4 years to play a game, they must like it alot and you could be one of them. I personaly would wait for one of the new mmorpg's to come out, that way you dont get jadded to the who genre.

Valhalid has rated 1/10 points (Click here to see more Reviews from Valhalid)

Very basic in concept, no valid story line. No player involvement. Load it up, kill stuff, level. No uniqueness, everyone looks the same. Equipment based melee classes, non equipment based caster classes. Horribly unbalanced classes. Pretty.

Awesome game, without a doubt a great RPG

vaticide has rated 4/10 points (Click here to see more Reviews from vaticide)

Wasted a year on this game, so it must have some merit. Too addictive (like changing your lifestyle addiction) without being fun enough to make it work. I'd advise choosing another MMORPG.

Black_Lord has rated 1/10 points (Click here to see more Reviews from Black_Lord)

The most boring MMORPG on the market, spend 20 minutes on your bum sitting down for a few minutes of action. Be swatted like a fly by monsters that are supposed to be equal in level, die, and then lose 5 days worth of experience, and work. Camp for days real time trying to get items to better your character's performance! Squabble with other players for the rights to camp for days real time. I gave it a 1, because I couldn't give it a zero.

Lil' Pipsqueek has rated 1/10 points (Click here to see more Reviews from Lil' Pipsqueek)

Graphics engine is horrid. Lag is common. Bugs are not fixed promptly. In game death penalties are more severe than punishments for real life sex offenders. Absence of end-game and purpose. Extremely repetitive. Over priced expansions and recently increased monthly rate. No customer service.

Gilrael has rated 5/10 points (Click here to see more Reviews from Gilrael)

I played a lot, and got utterly bored in the end (54 lvl wizz). Great game 2 years ago, started a genre, but couldn't evolved. Let's wait for the next generation of mmorpg.

Tyson McCann has rated 10/10 points (Click here to see more Reviews from Tyson McCann)

The best, but most addictive game ever made. The good far far outweighs the bad.

Tarq has rated 10/10 points (Click here to see more Reviews from Tarq)

The only MMORPG or game I have ever played that made me play it for 5500 hours. I have yet to experience anything like it in any of the others since. The first time I logged on.....I'll never forget it. The feeling was simply one of a kind. May never have that experience again.

sctvorp has rated 5/10 points (Click here to see more Reviews from sctvorp)

This game ruined my life! But other than that, it was frustrating. The classes are not balanced, what they did was cripple all the classes so that u have to work together to kill anything. Its ironic that a Ranger decked out with short sword of moridin and dragoon dirk, full banded and other magical items, cannot kill a coyote of the same level. Also it costs money, which sucks. They also recently did a rate hike.

Jandar has rated 3/10 points (Click here to see more Reviews from Jandar)

I played just about every class to the mid twenties then the gameplay always turned to crap. Pity it took me so many months (hell, years!) to figure that out.

nadia has rated 9/10 points (Click here to see more Reviews from nadia)

been playing the game for 3 years - it still has my attention was the most fun during the 1st 6 months

Nate has rated 9/10 points (Click here to see more Reviews from Nate)

Considering when this was actually developed, it was and even still is a pretty sweet game. Based on a mud I frequent, Sojourn/Toril, it is very familiar. Sure, the people running it had their quirks and Customer Service was lame at times, but the content and world was huge and very attractive considering again, the time/year it was developed. Keep your eye out for EQ2, it will kick some ass.

Tone has rated 3/10 points (Click here to see more Reviews from Tone)

Good graphics but the hack-and-slash nature of the game leaves one wondering, when you finally hit the cancel button on your acount, where all that time went. I find single player games both more graphically advanced and better use of free time since they end and you can venture back out into the real world until the next game catches your eye. As a MUD with 3D graphhics the game is more evolutionary than revolutionary. It added little in the way of gameplay to the mix and relies on eye-candy to hook players.

Icon has rated 1/10 points (Click here to see more Reviews from Icon)

crappy game... no pvp

FrGGr has rated 1/10 points (Click here to see more Reviews from FrGGr)

I played this game for way too long expecting that once i got to a cerain lvl the game would open up into something new.. more worthwhile quests, items, equipment sense of accompolishment etc.. Huge disappointment, don't waste your time and money. I made a Ranger expecting that I could be a loner type, doesnt need help from anyone can do things on his own, ability to heal, buff and do minor dmg with spells mixed with great melee dmg and potentially the best Bow dmg, seems if u get in over your head as a Ranger u could have time to run away or bowkite your way outta harm. Well this is true until u reach lvl 45 or so, the game is developed to where u have to rely on others to do anything after lvl 45. Druid class is exception to this, as u will realize early that most longitme EQ'ers create a Druid simply for the purpose of being able to solo higher lvl camps for items to twink their other chars. Basically if u have fun spending money for a game where u spend most of your time not actually progressing your char rather waiting for others to port u buy/sell or look for group to kill mobs to advance, have fun wearing out your mouse button monotonously clicking to gain lvls in skills, then once u do all of this the main factor in EQ is money, u can buy/sell for 5 months straight in auction halls posting and reading auctions from others buying/selling in realtime waiting for someine who wants to buy or has what u need u can have higher lvl equip in that 5 months just sitting on your ass buying and selling than 1 year of actually playing the game advancing your char, getting lucky from drops. The point is this game is pointless, it revolves around items/money, the quests timespent/reward is not even in the realm of worthwhile except for the lvl 50+ class specific "Epic" quests which take weeks to months of time to do and HAVE to have a lot of high lvl help from guildmembers or friends to help u await your camptime on certain high lvl mobs that rarely drop what your looking for creating a sense of accompolishment after u finally do get it, but with newer expansion's like Velious and Luclin the Epic's value has dwindled and dwindled as you can get better items from newer high lvl mobs. Bottom line is dont waste your time/money/life getting sucked in, if you enjoy spending money to waste your time/life might as well start smoking crack. I take games pretty seriously as you can tell and EQ is not a game, it is a SoE/Verant Money Machine and all EQ'ers become their little sheep, thats the only way I consider EQ a RPG

Arax_TheBold has rated 9/10 points (Click here to see more Reviews from Arax_TheBold)

Nothing beats the freedom in this game. You can spend the day traveling from one side of the world to another or just spend it in one place hacking and slashing with your friends or trade skilling. This game has it all, weapons, gear, food, friends, booze, and a real economy. Unfortunately just like all games you will grow tired of it. It is also very addicting, so be careful. But, if you’re reading this chances are your too late.

Awsome initial impression, massibe game world, graphics. Soon, playability, travel, downtime, time to accomplish anything wore me down. Can't enjoy a game that takes 6-8 hours a setting to do anyting meaningful.

[LoD] Asparouh has rated 4/10 points (Click here to see more Reviews from [LoD] Asparouh)

Playing EQ made me feel like a resource of a huge corporation. I give it my monthly dues and it gives me a virtual world with virtual items. After a while though it just isn't enough. I want more than just some virual item with no meaning other than to help me get other virtual items. I want large battles and a world influenced by the characteristics of good and evil, in short I want PvP and EQ doesn't have it and is not suited for it.

Pixii Blackhearrt has rated 1/10 points (Click here to see more Reviews from Pixii Blackhearrt)

Peeps.. I gotta tell ya.. I have played this game for over 2 years.. in fact 2 and 1/2 years now, and have made and deleted many characters in that time space.. Right now I still have a 52 Halfling Druid that I have stopped leveling.. because she is dead without a group at that level.. even on blues :( I have been the leader of Legion of Blackhearts on here for that long too.. And I'm tired and disappointed with the game.. (We have alot of people in LOB and I hate leaving them.. but, I'm bored and just plain disillusioned with EQ anymore.. This game is really addictive and goes no where.. I even spent $1500.00 on a new high end computer to stay up with Verants constance RAM hog for the graphics on here.. The one my husband uses is 3 years old now.. (a 450 Pentium with 320 meg of Ram on it.. but a new Savage Video card..) and it has so much lag on it, that it disconnects my fast one all the time.. if we are grouped together to play.. :(( And what is the use of having two computers and pay for 2 accounts every month.. if we can't play together? ) Here is my list of EQ's disappointments: (1.) it is geared to grouping with others.. and I'll tell ya guys.. sometimes I just like being a loner.. I like people, just like the rest of the world.. but, not all the time. Sometimes I just need to play by myself for a bit, and with this game you cannot, not and expect to stay alive and not lose all the experiance you have gained over the last week or two.. And I mean playing for 12 to 14 hours straight.. every day.. 7 days a week.. Now I know that most people can't play that long at one time.. but, I'm retired and it's just me and my husband now, and the two dogs to care for.. so I can. :) (2.) All your spells when you get a little higher have to be gotten by research, or off of NPC's that are at least 5 times higher than you.. for the spell you will want to use at your level.. Well.. here's the crust of the problem.. The research takes you months to get a high enough exp. on it to be able to do it well.. and if you don't do it well.. then, you will fail at it.. and have to collect all the pages again to try and make it again..(the scroll I mean that is the spell) And if you do do this.. it will cost you in the neighborhood of 1400pp to do a decent job on research to make it work eventually... :( And by that time.. you will not need the spell, because you have gotten so bored trying to make it, that you have gone out and leveled more to compensate for the down time on this.. So in the end... you will give up on the research character altogether.. Verant wants us to keep playing.. and this is how they get us to do it.. By making us spend months to get anything done. Now.. for the spells being on the NPC's.. Well.. it's going to take you at least 2 groups of people.. (6 to a group) to get those spells off them NPC's... because you cannot do it alone.. And people that spend a few days with you getting your spells for you, are not going to be happy if that NPC they have been killing all this time does not have the spell on them for 7 days.. Yeah.. some of the spells on the higher end NPC's do not carry that spell on them except one every 7 days.. so in the end.. it's hopeless to try.. and... you make your friends hate you too.. :( because they have spent all their time with you when they could of been doing their own stuff.. (3.) Items, good Armor, Quests and Epics all come under the same problem.. You will have to camp certain monsters that are alot higher than you to obtain these things.. so.. you will need at least 2 or 3 groups of peeps to help you.. And if a decent piece is dropped.. they do a random roll of the dice to see who receives that item.. And if you just happen to be unlucky on rolls of the computer dice.. then a piece of equipment that only you can use, may go to a warrior in that group.. and of course you will have to pay him for it if you want it.. so your back to square one again on this.. People hating other people for being so competitive and platium hungry that they make enemies outta even their closest friends on here.. Just to obtain a piece of equipment that will be obsolete in the next expansion that Verant puts out.. :( It may also take weeks or months, working with this group to get the article too.. since Verant puts limits on how many articles are dropped in days and weeks.. The bottom line on EverQuest is this.. They have made this game almost impossible to attain anything on it.. And if you do take the time and money to do so.. There is no reward at all in the end.. Unless walking around looking good is a reward.. And in my opinion it is not.. Because here's the smacker on it folks.. Even at level 60 which is the highest you can go.. there are still NPC's out there that can and will kill you.. Verant geared alot of their NPC's to levels 65-70.. just so it takes a very large group of peeps to kill them.. :( This is why I am on here today.. is to find a different RPG that is worth playing with my husband and friends I can drag from EQ.. Any suggestions would be welcome.. plz email me on this if you have a really good RPG that is fun and rewarding.. :)

This game would be great if Verant weren't so hostile and abusive to the players and if people did't just sit for hours and days and camp good items with no real roleplaying. As it is it is about as much fun as going to the dentist.

The players turn this game of potential to dirt! Player misbehavior ruins this game completely.

Jacko has rated 5/10 points (Click here to see more Reviews from Jacko)

Decent MMORPG but I've always though the original MMORPG, Ultima Online was the best. Everything else has been a rip-off. I even found Asheron's Call more stimulating than Everquest, I have no idea how EQ manages to remain #1. If you enjoy being suckered into another $30 expansion game every 3 months or insist on a RAM guzzling game, EQ is the MMORPG for you.

Lachlyn has rated 7/10 points (Click here to see more Reviews from Lachlyn)

This one is tricky to write...I have 2.5 years of EQ addiction, and it is a very bittersweet saga. For a time, it was the only major 3D MMORPG out there...it had the market cornered if you wanted 3D social interaction online. But it was "THEIR World", and that always came across in their attitude to their customers. One time, straight out from the Head GM on my server! We were the suckers paying them, there were no other choices, and they had a cocky antagonistic attitude that grated badly. Their "Vision"(TM) for the game, their definition of 'challenge', I always found to be steeped in sadism, from Day One. The things they made players endure, you just knew they were sitting at their GM screens laughing at you. Yet still I played...'only game in town'. It was not until DAoC gave them strong competition that they made ANY changes focused on making the game more fun and more bearable for the players. Yes, they dumped in LOADS of content, expanded their world, made money on each expansion...but to this day, it is STILL far more crashy/laggy than it should be. Maybe they just don't have the best programmers...maybe they reach too high...I don't know. I just know that with all the money they have made off EQ, programmers and servers really should be the very best. I always felt the game to be fantasy, in a cartoony sense, but with Shadows of Luclin it got even more so. Your Avatar IS you in game, and lot of them have some incredibly stupid animations. My Barb Warrior (female) runs like she has polio! No, on art and technical functionality, EQ missed the boat. (HAH! Boats...another joke.) I like what they tried to do, and for many it may satisfy...but for me, the longterm familiarity has bred a certain amount of contempt for Verant. They based the game's premise on greed, and it feels almost like a casino when you enter it. From the Bazaar to the beggars, from Ebay to Uber Guilds, the stink of avarice strongly marks EQ. So for me the experience was a very mixed one. I still have my accounts and my friends there, I play occasionally, but it is no longer where I prefer to be.

IF a game can change your entire REAL LIFESTYLE, it has to be rated highly, even if you hate the game for doing that to you :P Anyone who rates this game before they play it for more than a month, needs to have there review removed. This game has seemingly endless amounts of content/quests/things to do/people to impress/ it has changed the entire way we think of mmorpg's. And has also transformed the genre. That in itself deserves some respect. :P

Saikyo has rated 9/10 points (Click here to see more Reviews from Saikyo)

Imo, the end game is great. Exping is so boring. Why would you wanna exp in games for ever when you can kill stuff and actually fight for spawns! I think it is a lot more fun then working together and holding hands. You don't really lag in this game unless your machine is that screwed up and out dated, and if you do lag on this then you will most likely lag in the newer games coming out also. 40+ servers with an average 2500 on each can't be wrong. Compare that to the othe games and see how it compares. :P

This game was fun at the beginning, but it QUICKLY went DOWNhill from there. You pay an arm and a leg for expansions, when there are still sooo many bugs with previous ones. And they do not allow players at higher levels to solo or pair in adventures. The LAG is AWFUL in many places and the graphics issues are in need of repair. It sucks when you are running and all of a sudden you are "snow blinded" when you are inside a city! There are bnot nearly enough guides to assist when you have trouble and most of the time you wait for ar least 3+ hours to even get a reply. And then when they do, you are often left dissatisfied because they won't assist with legit issues. You can rest assured that when my subscription is up, my hard earned money will remain in MY bank account!

You spend most of the time fighting the terrible camera controls (see WOW for how to do it right) that you lose all interest in the story, which is utterly bland btw. Graphics are terrible and the feeling of walking on repetitive, claustrophobic tilesets spoils any type of atmosphere.

bug has rated 8/10 points (Click here to see more Reviews from bug)

from 1998 this beta established the foundation for content and fun pve mmorpg. With the 1999 retail it became the PC standard for subscription gaming, largly due to it's only competition was UO and Lineage. Starting to decline in users after 2003, many keep wondering how $oE could let such a property decline to it's present state. But for a foundation hack/slash/cast game EQ is a good starting place and deserves respect. Do not let your dissatisfation with $oE's incompetence shade your opinion of EQ. Solid 8.
