Anarchy Online Game Director Marius Enge has written a letter detailing how the alien attacks work in Alien Invasion. The information could be considered spoilerish I suppose so here's the intro:
So, AI is out the door ... First of all I want to thank all the players for hanging in there during the launch. It has been a very smooth launch in our eyes. The servers are running excellently, and thanks to our excellent programming team, there was not a single new server crash introduced with AI. We did however see a slight increase in Client crashes, but that has already been fixed and patched out to the live servers. There are still land areas vacant which means that we made a good estimate in the number of slots we allocated for you. There's alien attacks running all the time, and it seems the players are having fun in the game. I wanted to write up a little something post launch to explain some of the mechanics we introduced with AI. Specifically Alien Attacks and Alien XP. I have seen people asking for information on how the Alien attack works, and there is a lot of interesting theories out there, as to how they supposedly works. So I figured I'll give you guys some information about this, so its easier for you to plan your attacks and your org raids. So, if you don't want pretty detailed information about how AI works, you should stop reading now, if not, please read on ...
