If you haven't managed to download the bandwidth-breaking 'Dungeon Siege II' demo, you can head to GameSpy for some hands on impressions:The best thing about Chris Taylor's original Dungeon Siege was that it made no pretenses regarding what it was. It was a straight up hack-and-slash action/RPG that -- hardcore "role-players" notwithstanding -- has remained appealing since the form was first popularized by Blizzard's classic Diablo. True, Dungeon Siege was a bit shortchanged when it came to things like storyline and character development, but the game's stripped-down RPG dynamics (kill creature, get loot from steaming corpse, kill bigger creature, get better loot;), remain endlessly appealing on that sort of visceral reptile-brain level. |
