Here's some interesting info on Lionheart from the official forums: In this thread, Doug Avery says that Lionheart will have real time battles with the option to pause:
I just figured that we'd give you guys a few of the changes we're planning on making to Lionheart for discussion over the long weekend. I get to post the first one because I can type faster than Cabal can.

During the course of play balancing the game, it has become more and more evident that some form of pause might be necessary. This is due to a couple of factors. The first is that swapping out inventory items is tough to do while in real-time combat. The second is that targetting a specific area was also difficult in real-time. So here's our current solution, which may change in the weeks to come. We're implementing a pause so that you can swap inventory during combat and also select a different part of your target's anatomy to attack. You will not be able to issue orders or anything else during this pause, but we feel that it could help out those players not used to a twitchy twitch style of gameplay.
