Retailer EVgames has an interview with Turbine's Ken Troop on Asheron's Call - Dark Majesty. Here's something about what you get - and the island of Marae Lassel:

Dark Majesty is a stand-alone expansion. Do new players get the entire AC experience when they purchase Dark Majesty?

Absolutely. Players purchasing Asheron's Call Dark Majesty get the full contents of the original Asheron's Call, in addition to almost two years worth of monthly Event updates. For the new player interested in exploring Asheron's Call, all they need is the expansion.

What can you tell us about the island of Marae Lassel?

Back in the days of the Empyrean, the island was a habitat and refuge for the Gromnatross, a native Derethian creature held in divine awe by the earliest Empyrean cultures. The name of the island translated out of Empyrean means "The Sheltering Isle." Long ago, however, an Empyrean sorceress shattered the sanctity of Marae Lassel, causing the Gromnatross to flee the island. There the island lay for centuries, abandoned and desolate, until new inhabitants came to Dereth through the portals of Asheron and discovered this former paradise off Dereth's northwest coast.

And now humans are discovering the island for the first time. Like in ancient days, Marae Lassel once more is the sanctuary of powerful beasts with incredible abilities. Except there is very little of the divine in them.
