The Chronicles of Spellborn Game Designer Coen Neessen talks with mmog.onlinewelten.com about classes, PvP and the Spellborn community. The interview is available in both English and German. Here's a sample from the English version:
Q:The classes of Spellborn. Great job, they are unique like your game itself. Your classes have the touch of offensive classes, no real supporter or defensive classes. Please tell us the reason for this decision.

A:We actually do have several "support" classes, in a sense that they have more support abilities then others. All classes can survive on their own though and as such there isnt a class that just excels at supporting and is bad at everything else.

During fights in TCoS every player will be in the heat of battle, not just one man of the team (what people call a main tank). Therefore every class needs to be able to be at least somewhat defend themselves. Each class uses their own different strengths in order to do so. The Blood Warrior shares damage with friends or foes, while the Deadhand slowly drains his enemies to death with poisons.

On the other hand, due to the Skilldeck system, players can focus purely on the support skills of a class and create a support character if they so desire.
