German fansite Gamesdynamite has an exclusive (English) interview with Scott Brown, who heads production of the upcoming Auto Assault.
Q: Do players share your enthusiasm about the combination [of car combat/MMO]? Or do you sometimes think “I wish I’d just done a standard fantasy MMORPG – less work, more players”?
A: Well, it is certainly more difficult when you do something new. The more unique your game, the more difficult it is to understand. Players come with different expectations, and when you do something new, they often feel that they do not get what they expected. We have experienced this with Auto Assault, yes, and they are moments when you think that it would be easier to do a standard game. For example, in the beginning, we found that MMORPG players wanted to have more emphasis on skills, while action gamers were very demanding on the action and targeting side. But we got good feedback in the beta, and we twisted the game accordingly. I.e. we developed the skills and we made adjustments in the action part. So I am very happy with the result now.
