Online RPGs as a Microcosm of Society

At ferrago.co.uk you'll find an editorial on how MMORPG's tend to evolve organically into replicas of society. Here's how it begins:
It’s official – the Everquest world of Norrath has a bigger economy than Bulgaria, and only slightly smaller than Russia. That is the story that’s been doing the rounds for a couple if weeks now, and it got me thinking. Isn’t it funny how quickly online worlds evolve features very similar to our own? And why are there not psychologists or psychiatrists or some other form of psych looking into this phenomenon? It needs investigating, I’m telling you.
