There are two more noteworthy reviews of Throne of Darkness on the net today: A First Impressions at RPGVault, and a full review at IGN PC. Let's start with the summary at RPGVault:
In any of these modes, my first 15 hours or so playing the release build have certainly been enjoyable. So far, Throne of Darkness has offered an attractive combination of a very shallow learning curve and fast-paced monster-bashing fun combined with some very striking feudal Japanese-themed visuals and fluid animations for both the characters and monsters. At the same time, for players who desire a bit more depth, it offers more than may be initially apparent through elements such as tactics, character development, party composition, the spell tree and item customization. Throne of Darkness isn't a deep RPG aimed at hardcore fans of the genre. It is an action-packed romp in an intriguing gameworld, with some elements for players who prefer a little more thought and planning. In this regard, Click Entertainment seems to have been pretty successful in creating the game they set out to make.
The review on IGN PC rates the game 7.1/10 (the lowest rating we have seen so far). They think that the game doesn't offer enough motivation to play on for a long time:
I wish the game had opened up a bit more after the first few days of play. By that point, the routine was pretty well established -- run around killing bad guys and stealing their stuff and then recycling it for items I didn't need only to head out again for even more ass-beatings. It's a formula that only works if you feel like you're making some sort of progress. Throne of Darkness just never offered up enough rewards to keep me motivated. After my characters reached about 15th level, it didn't seem like fun anymore. |
