RPG Vault has interviewed MiSTland's Vitaly Shutov about their turn-based tactical RPG, 'COPS 2170: Power of Law':
Jonric: In overview, how would you introduce the kind of gameworld environment in which COPS 2170 takes place? What makes it distinctive?

Vitaly Shutov: The universe of COPS 2170 is the world of a future technological civilization. People spend most of their free time in computer networks, socializing, playing, having sex or fishing, yet all of this is just virtual reality. The general appearance may remind you of a futuristic America, but there's no particular reference to real locations. There is still democracy in this world, but there is no freedom, at least not the same kind as before. The government watches over everything for the safety of the public, and society is under its complete control. But society does not even care; the average person is only concerned with the events happening in his own, virtual world.

Cyberlinks are implanted at birth. Moreover, each one comes with a unique ID, allowing special organizations to determine the location of a certain person at any given moment. The cities have turned into monstrous urban centers, where life takes place on several levels, the lowest of which (ground level) never sees any sunlight at all because of all the highways, monorails, training courts and even stadiums built above it. It's a world of slums. Normal citizens never visit the lower levels. The police go only if it can't be helped, and even then, only in large numbers. Areas like this stretch out over many kilometers; there are even several levels of underground canals. Of course, a different kind of life can be found below in the splendor and magnificence of the upper levels.
