I'm still having my doubts whether this is just another Sims Online clone or a real mmorpg merely emphasizing the social aspect of mmorpg's... so I decided we can as well cover it for now. Anyway, MMOWorlds.com put up an interview with Patrick Glaspey, designer of Populopolis online today. Could serve as a first introduction with the game, if you like.
It (Populopolis) was born in January 2000. I had been out of the online game community for about 5 years, and upon visiting my old haunting grounds (Worlds Away -now Avaterra-, Ultima Online) I discovered that they had not progressed. I felt that I could do better and so I began learning and in 6 months we had our first beta test using flash. Quite basic but a great learning experience. We have been through a couple engines since then and have settled on Torque, a indie engine that was used to make Tribes 2. We have been making a lot of changes to the engine to support Pop, and we are making great progress. Read it all here. |
