Gamespydaily has conducted an interview with the folks from Realms of Torment, the upcoming medieval fantasy massively multiplayer online role playing game. Here's a bit:
GameSpyDaily: How are spells learnt in the game? Do you pick them up (e.g. Dungeon Siege) or are they learnt when your character levels up (e.g. Diablo II)?

Realms of Torment: Realms of Torment is a skill based game. Spell schools are considered skills just as sword skill or dagger skills. A player will be able to choose any skill he/she wants at any time, however, skills will drop if they are not used for long periods of time. Some main statistics may increase the time in which a player can go without using a skill before it starts to degrade. You will need a certain amount of skill in the area of magic in which you want to use based on how powerful the spell is that you are trying to cast. Other restrictions on weapons would be weight. Certain weapons will require you to have a certain amount of strength before you can wield them and cause great amounts of damage while using them.
