Action Vault features the the first part of its EVE: The Second Genesis Journals. In issue #1, Designer Hrafnkell Oskarsson of CCP talks about characters in their space based MMO-RPG/Action hybrid. Here's an excerpt:
The biggest difference between EVE and traditional role-playing games is that in EVE, the character is not the vehicle the player steers in-game, but rather his space ship is. This means there isn't as clear correlation between the character and the game world; i.e. the character is not directly affecting or affected by the environment. To compensate we've made the character as visible as possible - you can access your character at all times, whether in-flight or on a station, to view his statistics or status, activate skill training, pay fines, etc. Other characters are also made easily discernable - by clicking on their ships, you get detailed information on the character. During character creation, you get to create a unique look for your character - this is the snapshot that other players will see when communicating with you. |
