Celtic Kings: The Punic Wars lead programmer Ivan-Assen Ivanov has been interviewed at ToTheGame:Q: For those reading who aren’t familiar with Celtic Kings, how would you describe the title and its type of gameplay?
A: Celtic Kings, and now The Punic Wars are somewhat unorthodox RTSes, where the emphasis is on strategic warfare, rather than base building and expansion, as the world is fully populated with structures at the beginning of the game. All units gain experience, and military units are lead by heroes to simplify management. Battles often involve hundreds of units, and unit specials play a very important role. The economic model is based on decentralized resources – you can’t spend the money you have in one settlement in the barracks of another. Armies in the field must be supplied with enough food, so any longer military campaigns take some serious planning. |
