Two reviews of Dungeon Siege to report about: Lost Hours rates the game 8.5/10 and offers this conclusion:
Aside from the fact that there’s virtually no story to speak of, Dungeon Siege is truly the best game of it’s kind to come along in nearly every aspect. Some people who don’t even normally like the genre may even find themselves enjoying the game for a short while, and without question marveling at the eye candy. But if you really want a deeper RPG, I’d advise looking into something more along the lines of Planescape: Torment or Morrowind. And Counterglow has this to say:
In the end, it all comes down to which side of the Diablo/Baldur's Gate role playing split you wound up on. If for you the story is just background noise against the glory of monster killing, treasure finding, and leveling up (or, gods help you, you LIKE robotic goblins with flame throwers), you will love Dungeon Siege right from the start. Most especially if you have a few like minded friends to play it with. If, on the other hand, the story is what motivates you through a game, then you may find your role as a humble farmer in a humble out of the way corner of the world killing a reclusive ancient evil just a little less epic than you probably want.
