GameAxis has slapped up a review of Troika's AD&D-based fantasy RPG 'The Temple of Elemental Evil: A Classic Greyhawk Adventure' rating the game at 8.0 out of 10 points.Big kudos also go to the characters and NPCs themselves. True, you’re trapped in an isometric, looking-down-from-above point of view, but if you’ve ever played D & D and sometimes rifles through that ol’ Monster Manual for fun looking at enemies such as Ettins, Ochre Jellies and Gelatinous Cubes, then you’ll be gratified to see that the character designs have stuck pretty closely to what you’re familiar with. And your party is also nicely customizable as every weapon, article of clothing and piece of armor they wear is automatically reflected in your character the moment they equip the piece. It’s a small touch, but it IS gratifying to see helmets change, or that snazzy emblem on the back of the cloak appear on your character as they don their new gear. For some reason it’s just more SATISFYING to see the results of your loot rather than experience it as an invisible statistical bonus when you go into combat. |
