Freedom Force Center continues its series of Q&A's with an interview with Ken Levine, Executive Producer of Freedom Force. Here's a tasty bit:
Mike: How different do you imagine videogames will look a couple decades from now? Do you feel the format itself has reached a plateau? Or do you feel we will eventually be playing games in drastically different manners?
Ken: There’s this infamous scientist in the 19th century who declared that everything that could be invented HAD been invented. Not exactly a forward thinker. I’m not really much use as a futurist, but I try to avoid putting my foot in my mouth (especially in print). I think that certain developers are on the vanguard of the future. Will Wright, for sure. I remember the first time I saw the Sims. He had found a new conflict to simulate, that of time management. Designers like that make you want to turn in your developer’s card.
I think the main thing that will change is the subject matter. Let’s face it, not everybody wants to captain their own star ship. Not everybody wants to be a 3rd level half-elf paladin. Mind you, I do, but I imagine the general populous is hungry for a broader range of vicarious experience. | Source: RPGVault |
