Recently, online game magazines Gamesweb.com and 4players.de reviewed Piranha Bytes' Gothic II. Here's a summary of both (German language) reviews...
The Gamesweb.com conclusion:

"I admit it - I'm addicted. Even after playing the game for the second time I can't wait for my next game. (...) Despite the older game engine the beautiful Gothic II landscapes are, along with first-class sound, among the best of their kind. Even better: Immense gameplay depth, a thrilling story and terrific AI. All this combined with action-orientied combat, vastly improved controls and a high level of replayability raises Gothic II above its counterparts in the 3D RPG genre."

Rating: 92%

The 4players.de conclusion:
"No other game manages to get across the true 'wilderness' feeling just like Gothic II does - deep gorges, dark forests and picturesque rivers call for exploration. And in the towns adventure is waiting, thanks to the masterful AI which renders the Gothic II denizens - as opposed to Morrowind - frighteningly alive. (...) Combat might prove too hectical for beginners; this, combined with annoying things like clipping issues, crashes and characters getting stuck prevented Gothic II from receiving our Award. (...) Despite this critique the adventuring experience is so massive, the mission so exciting that the minor complaints are sucked into the maelstrom of ardor."
Rating: 89%
