Over at AVault, you can find a preview of Magic: The Gathering Online. Here's something from that:
Before wizards come to blows, they must create a deck, usually by way of the Deck editor. These are generally created for constructed games, which are comprised of a minimum of 60 cards from your collection. There's no limit to the number of cards you can include in your hand, but you are restricted to four cards of any one particular spell, creature, or artifact. (Land cards are the exception to this rule, as the player can have an unlimited number of them in his or her hand.) These restrictions ensure all players begin at a similar starting point and guarantee that battles won't end prematurely. Duelists who like having back-up plans can also establish sideboards for best-of-three matches. These battles consist of 15 cards or less and allow mages to swap or augment their spell books for the next round. For beginning players, the Deck editor suggests three effective decks; however, the recommended cards must be in a player's collection before these sets can be created and used. The editor also provides statistics and probabilities of a type of card being drawn based on the composition of the pack, allowing further tinkering and manipulation. |
