Elder Scrolls 3 - Morrowind: 8/10 points |
Not perfect but a very good game indeed with a large world and lots of freedom. Some of the plugins that added individual personalities to each resident in certain towns made me think how much more this game could have been with that, could have matched Ultima 7, but it's still one of the best RPGs in years. |
Final Fantasy VII: 9/10 points |
There are lots of different subtypes of RPGs, not all of them have to be the D&D roll your party type, some are story driven, as this game is, some are hybrids with action or strategy elements, some are online, but they are all RPGs in some sense. If stories and characterizations are important to you, as it is to me, then this is an excellent game. If stats and picking your own party and what you do througout the game is more important to you than it may not be your cup of tea, but doesn't make it a bad game. I think it's one of the better of the FF series too. It's a shame it wasn't a financial success for the PC as now we aren't getting the excellent FFX for the PC, but it seems like console RPGs and computer RPGs have two completely different auidences that don't crossover much. However I like both. |
Summoner: 9/10 points |
I really enjoyed this game. The story and mythology were very interesting, I also liked having lots of side quests and lots of npcs to talk to as well as seeing lots of interesting locales. The couple of sneaking segments ala Metal Gear were fun too. The only slight let down was in the second half of the game there was a lot less npc interaction. |
Ultima 7 - Serpent Isle (Sequel): 10/10 points |

Ultima 7 - The Black Gate: 10/10 points |
The pinnacle of RPGs, has yet to be fully duplicated, let alone surpassed in terms of world and npc interaction. And I liked the battle system, it shifted the bulk of your playtime over to quests, story and npc interaction, most games are the opposite, the flesh out the bulk of game time with repetitive battles. And for you people rating Ultima 7 a 1 and Morrowind 10, at least one of the developers of Morrowind has said on record that Ultima 7 was his favorite game and an influence in making Morrowind. Ultima 7 continues to influence games even today, but sadly, not enough. And for anyone rating the game a 1 for little or no comment, unless you've got some constructive criticism as to why you think the game is bad, you're just being haters who can't stand that something is popular and everyone else likes it. Grow up, either make a useful comment or don't bother. |
Wizardry 8: 8/10 points |
I liked this game a lot. I really liked the full voice and the personalities it gave the npcs. I guess there could have been more npcs, but then they probably would have been more generic and not had full voice. I also liked that your party has voice and you can pick their personalities, a lot better than just picking a lifeless party where your imagination has to supply the personality. One thing I didn't like though was much was made of which faction you should choose to side with throughout the game, but in the late stages of the game and in the end it really made no difference. It's still an excellent RPG though and I would reccomend it. |
