The Adrenaline Vault sends along word that the Pool of Radiance 2 uninstall routine is about as buggy as an ant hive. In fact, the bug is so severe there's a chance you can kiss your Windows 9x good-bye.
Here's the fully story:
It's not often when the Adrenaline Vault feels the need to put out a warning, but a newly discovered "bug" in Ubi Soft's just released Pool of Radiance: Ruins of Myth Drannor compels us to act.
We have uncovered a probable bug in the installation program for PoR that could wipe out a user's Windows 9x system files during the uninstallation process.
During our installation of PoR, the install program locked up the computer, forcing a reboot. After this, the PoR installation program would only give the option to uninstall the game; at this time, the program also wiped out our Win98 SE system files and would not reinstall the game.
A further bug was uncovered in the installation program that prevents the user from installing to any directory other than the default.
We contacted Ubi Soft for comment but had not heard back from them as this story went to press.
Update by Rendelius: Here's something from the Ubi Soft Solution Center about the problem with not being able to install anywhere else but on drive c:
This is an issue we are currently trying to fix. Some things you can do in the meantime are:
1. Make sure you have at least 150mb free on your C: drive. Even though you are not installing the game there the game needs to create a swap file on the C: drive. Try emptying your temp folder in your Windows directory to free up space.
2. If that does not work try freeing up enough space on your C: drive to install the game by moving non-essential files to your other drives if you can and install Pool of Radiance to either the default drive or to a different drive of your choice.
If neither of these options help, please check back in the coming days for a patch.
Oh, and just saw at BluesNews that there is already a workaround for this bug, but you will have to use TweakUI... |
