Adrenaline Vault has taken a closer look at the Diablo 2 expansion "Lord of Destruction". Their rating is four out of five stars, and that's a bit of what they have to say about gameplay:
Lord of Destruction fixes a number of Diablo II's gameplay flaws. Mercenaries have been improved so that they're useful, and not just a method of distracting Duriel. The hired help now develops along with the player, is able to use certain items, and can travel between acts. Additional hotkeys make the Sorceress and Necromancer more effective by giving them instant access to a greater number of skills, and the ability to walk through one's minions makes areas like the Maggot Lair playable. Further, summoning can be performed in town, gambling has been simplified, and a "Repair All" button reduces the duration of town trips. These fixes are welcome improvements. However, the save system, which only allows characters to save their progress at fixed waypoints, remains the same as in Diablo II. While this system stores more information on the server and prevents many cheats in multiplayer games, it detracts from the single-player experience. |
